Looking for fun autumn videos for your music lessons? Here are five videos to add to your fall video playlist, to practice rhythm and listening skills!
#1: Fall rhythm reading for tika-tika
I created this video to have students practice tika-tika, or sixteenth notes. You could use this at the start of a lesson, or as a transition from one rhythmic activity to another! I also created this one for half note, this one for syncopa, or eighth/ quarter/ eighth.
#2: Fall rhythm reading for ta, ti-ti, and rest
I absolutely love the Ready Go Music channel! This is a fun video to practice ta, ti-ti, and rest with students. If students are in the preparation phase, you could simply have them read with “red” and “yellow,” and if they know ta, ti-ti, and rest, you could start with the colors and then move to the rhythm syllables.
#3: Football rhythm reading
Since fall means football, this would be a super fun way to practice ta, ti-ti, rest, half note, and whole note! I LOVE the music in the video; students would definitely be engaged while reading!
#4: "Autumn Leaves" by Nat King Cole
“Autumn Leaves” is such a beautiful song, and this video showcases the colors of autumn! You could have students watch the video, then have them answer questions, such as:
- What do you notice?
- What do you wonder?
- What do you value?
- Which word would you use to describe this song?
#5: "Autumn" from "Four Seasons" on piano
This video is a helpful way for students to visually see notes on the piano, and to improve their understanding of rhythm and melody. I love that it's a simpler version of “Autumn,” so those who know how to play piano could see themselves learning it!
