Christmas Videos for the Music Room

Ipad on desk, with rhythm pattern on screen, Christmas tree in background, and the text "Christmas Videos for the Music Room"

Are you looking for fun and engaging videos to add to your Christmas music playlist? Here are five videos that can extend your students' musical understanding this December, while celebrating winter holidays:

#1: Christmas rhythm play alongs

If you are wanting students to practice rhythm, this rhythm play along from my YouTube channel is perfect for tika-tika, or sixteenth notes:

Here are some other videos with the same theme, for different rhythm concepts:

#2: Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy

If you've ever seen any of the line rider videos, you know how awesome they are! This video is like a listening map for “Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy,” and is sure to be a hit!

#3: Sleigh Ride Cup Game

If your students are familiar with the cup game (like I wrote about in this post), they will love this cup game, which can be performed to “Sleigh Ride” by Leroy Anderson:

#4: Jingle Bell Rock Body Percussion

This video is perfect for the Christmas season, and can help students improve their understanding of quarter notes, eighth notes, and quarter rest, or ta, ti-ti, and rest…but I could see it working with upper elementary as well!

#5: Hanukkah freeze dance

If you need to get your students up and moving, this freeze dance video, set to “Oh Hanukkah,” is perfect for the season!
